Emily Blunt Sets The Record Straight On Captain Marvel

Emily Blunt has been on the short list for Captain Marvel for a while now, and for the most part, the actress has been silent on the rumors. For many, she’s the only viable option for Captain Marvel, and many fans used her turn in Edge of Tomorrow as their number one reason to play Carol Danvers.

That said, if Marvel is interested in Emily Blunt, the actress hasn’t heard about it. Although she didn’t say that she was attached to play Captain Marvel, Blunt did address the reasoning behind her name being on a short list of women. For the Edge of Tomorrow actress, this highlights a bigger problem in Hollywood and the lack of female action heroes.

In an interview with Indiewire, Blunt discussed this problem while turning down Captain Marvel rumors.

“I think it’s because the list is very short, because we don’t see women in these kind of roles. So I think as soon as you do a role like that, like Charlize did or I did, or Rebecca’s done — there’s like four of us or something. And Jen Lawrence. So I feel like us four, we get talked about — and Angie, Angelina. So it’s a list of like, four women who are going to be considered for those kind of roles.”

Blunt continued, “So I think that’s why the rumors happen, because they’re like, ‘who else? Surely not another girl can wield a gun,’ you know what I mean? ‘A woman doing push-ups? There’s only one who can do that.'”

If not Ronda Rousey, people seem to be game with Emily Blunt.

Other popular picks include Jessica Chastain, Katee Sackhoff, and Shailene Woodley.

The only concrete news we have from Marvel is that a Carol Danvers centered film is set to hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
