Harry Styles: The Most Important ‘Gay Icon’ Of Our Time?
One Direction star Harry Styles and his bandmates just saw out the latest leg of their world tour. Styles took to Twitter to thank fans in Boston for “spending some time” with One Direction during their “amazing tour.” Harry and his pals are now due to head off to the UK for the final shows in their fourth major tour in as many years. Styles and One Direction are due to release their fifth album before year’s end and will spend some time promoting it before taking a long break beginning in March of next year.

As one would expect, speculation has been rife about Harry will spend his time during the break from One Direction. At present, Harry has not made any plans public. It was recently reported by the Inquisitr that Harry’s friend Nick Grimshaw has said that Styles is “exhausted” by the rigors of being a member of the worlds biggest boyband. This seems to indicate that Harry will spend at least some time recuperating from life on the road, but beyond that, nothing seems to be set in stone.
Sugarscape report that Rolling Stones star Mick Jagger wants Harry to star in a small screen drama he is working on with Martin Scorsese. Meanwhile, the Telegraph reports that Styles may be tempted by a career on the silver screen. It is claimed that Harry may appear in a silver screen movie of the hit BBC TV show Absolutely Fabulous. Styles is tipped to play 69-year-old Joanna Lumley’s love interest in the movie.
It may be that we have already seen Harry in the most important role he is likely to play. One Direction recently launched Action1D, a campaign designed to put pressure on world leaders to eradicate poverty, tackle climate change, and deal with prejudice and inequality.

As reported by Yahoo Celebrity, in recent weeks, Harry has demonstrated his support for gay rights by wrapping himself in a rainbow flag at a number of One Direction shows. This has lead some to recognize the role that prominent figures in pop culture can have when it comes to overcoming prejudice. One Twitter user went so far as to claim that Harry is “the most important LGBT icon of our time.”

Harry has spoken out in support of LGBT fans many times in the past, and he is clearly unafraid of demonstrating that support in a very visible way. Harry may just be the best ambassador the LGBT community could hope to have.
