Diana DeGarmo, Ace Young Engaged on Stage During American Idol Finale

American Idol alumni Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young got engaged during the show’s season 11 finale on Wednesday night after Young (Idol 5) proposed to DeGarmo (Idol 3) on stage.

Before announcing who would win Idol 11, Jessica Sanchez or Phillip Phillips, Ryan Seacrest turned his attention to the former contestants, calling both DeGarmo and Young to the stage. Saying, “dim the lights,” as he does during every results show, Seacrest turned to Young as the elimination tune played, who said, “This has always been home to us and I felt that this would be the perfect place to ask a simple question.”

Young then got down on one knee (which I guess is traditional or something) and said, “We have conquered Broadway together. We have created our new music together. We have an amazing group of people around us. And with the help of David Webb jewelry I have a way to make this last forever. Are you ready? I love you to death. You’re my best friend. I want to make this last forever and I will do anything in my power to have the most … amazing life together if you will have me. Diana Nicole DeGarmo, will you marry me?”

And whaddya know? A tearful DeGarmo nodded and said yes.

“I’m so speechless right now,” she said. “Wow, babe, you picked a good one! My makeup’s running.”

“Mine too,” quipped Seacrest.

In completely unrelated news, Idol viewership is down some 25%.
