Candice Swanepoel Unruffled By Catwalk Swan Dive Incident, Dreams Of Brazil And Raising Little Naked Kids
After Candice Swanepoel took a swan dive on the Givenchy runway Friday, September 11, 2015, she quickly recovered smiling to finish the walk. Her saving moment with savoir faire seemed to add value to her spot in Forbes‘? “world’s top-earning models” list, with an estimated net worth of $16 million. The iconic New York Fashion Week event at Pier 26 was another weighty business coming at the heels of her engagement to 33-year-old Brazilian model Hermann Nicoli.
Swanepoel, 26, was one of two models who fell during the high profile show attended by such celebrities as Kim Kardashian, her husband Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and Ciara. According to Business Standard, Swanepoel stumbled on her fashionably unlaced spike-heeled boots and landed on her hands and knees before spectators could help her. The other model was Poja Mor who tripped down the steps of a display bridge on the runway.
Swanepoel who became a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2010, was born on October 20, 1988 in Mooi River, KwaJulu-Natal Province, South Africa. A blue-eyed blonde with measurements of 34-23-34 inches, she started modelling at the age of 15, straight out of Saint Anne’s College, an all-girls boarding school.
In the course of her career, she modeled for the Kardashians’ 2010 swimwear line, opened the first Victoria’s Secret retail store in Canada on August 12, 2010, and was cover model for Victoria’s Secret Swim Catalogue. According to Wikipedia, she was then selected to wear the $10 million “Fantasy Bra” of 4,200 precious gems in the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. This bra had the special distinction of being the most expensive since the 2005 “Sexy Splendor Fantasy Bra” modeled by Gisele Bündchen.
In an interview with Derek Blasberg of 10 Magazine, Candice Swanepoel expressed her preference for life in Brazil, which she visited and fell in love with at the age of 17. She described a day in Brazil to Blasberg and was quoted on a May 25, 2013 Facebook post.
“We go straight to the beach, and spend the whole day there. Meet friends, have a beer, get a tan. I have Dutch blood, and Dutch South Africans can get really dark. But I always have sunscreen on my face. I do! After the beach, go home take a shower, feel your tan skin and you’re all clean, have lunch. Maybe you have sex. Then you have a snooze because you’re so exhausted from it all. Wake up, see friends and family, have a BBQ. And then you go to bed early… It’s simple: eat when you’re hungry, sleep when you’re tired. Life was a little easier back in time, and it still is in Brazil. In Bahia, they don’t know what Twitter is. I want to be a savage. I want to live my life naked, with all my little naked kids naked in the garden.”
According to Hollywood Life, her beau popped the question after 10 years of dating, and they were engaged on August 14, 2015. With Candice Swanepoel perfectly clear about marriage, children and retirement in Brazil, Hermann Nicoli is sitting pretty.
