Mallrats 2 is coming soon! Well, the production of it is anyway.
According to Superhero Hype,Kevin Smith, the star and director of the original Mallrats film, announced on Thursday, via Twitter, that the production of the sequel, originally titled Mallbrats, will start in January 2016 at the Exton Square Mall in Exton, Pennsylvania.
“We found our MALL, y’all!” he tweeted. “This January, the @extonsquaremall in Exton, PA will star in #Mallrats 2! @jayandsilentbob are coming to Chester County! Big thanks to financiers StarStream, who found the mall & the money! They’re making this #MR2 dream come true!”

Most of the original cast members are slated to return, including Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Ethan Suplee, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, Renee Humphrey, Joey Lauren Adams, Sven-Ole Thorsen, Scott Mosier, Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanagan, Brian O’Halloran, Claire Forlani, and, as himself, Stan “The Man” Lee. Smith will also be reprising his role as Silent Bob opposite Jason Mewes’ Jay. According to MovieWeb, Smith hopes Ben Affleck will appear in a cameo, but that hasn’t been confirmed due to his Batman commitment at Warner Bros.
Smith had originally anticipated May 2016 as being the goal for the start of production, but luckily they have landed the money and location earlier than they had expected.
“It’s half scripted right now and we’re pulling our loot together,” Smith said in March. “We’ve got up until the beginning of 2016. By the time we get to May 2016, we’re going to be shooting.”
A representative for PREIT, the company that owns the mall released a statement, saying they are excited that their mall will be the setting for a movie.

“PREIT is excited at the opportunity for one of our Philly area malls to be the setting for this movie. If all goes according to plan, filming will start at Exton Square in January,” the statement read. “We are thrilled at the prospect of hosting Kevin Smith, the actors, and crew, helping to bring jobs to the area, and creating social media & onsite events to celebrate the partnership.”
