‘Destiny’ 2.0: Don’t Complete Faction And Sub-Class Quests Yet [Update]

The Destiny 2.0 update hit Tuesday with a tremendous number of welcome changes to the PlayStation and Xbox shooter. Some bugs crept into the update, though, as is typical with software releases, including one that will make you want to hold off completing faction and sub-class specific Quests.

Update: Bungie provided the following update to the issue that clarifies the emblem awards will be in additional class-specific quests added with The Taken King on September 15. It’s still not clear why their original statement said “Faction-specific Quests are not granting the expected rewards.” They’ve since updated that issue to read that it is Patrols that will not retroactively grant rewards while “Faction-specific Quests will be able to be completed at a later date.”

Here is the new, clarifying statement.

There appears to be some confusion surrounding the new sub-class emblems that can be found in the Emblem Collection. The new emblems, which can be found under The Taken King sub-heading, are new emblems that require the completion of certain content and/or Bounties that will be released when Destiny: The Taken King launches. Players who complete their new sub-class Quests do not qualify for these emblems yet. There will more steps to complete, starting on September 15.

Of course, there is a reason not to complete these quests yet if you have a level 34 character. You won’t receive any of the experience points from the quest line to get them to the new level 40 cap.

Original Story:

Bungie posted a list of issues Wednesday night that have been discovered since the release of the Destiny 2.0 update. The list impacts Quests along with some of the pre-order bonuses for The Taken King. The following is the issue that specifically affects Quests

“We’re aware of an issue where Patrols and Faction-specific Quests are not granting the expected rewards upon completion. These rewards will be granted as expected for these activities starting on 9/15/2015. Patrols and Faction-specific Quests completed before this time will not retroactively grant rewards.”

This does affect sub-class specific Quests as well, as I discovered last night. I completed the Titan Defender sub-class Quest line and received a sweet level 40 class item as a reward. However, I did not receive the accompanying emblem that is supposed to be rewarded as well.

Unfortunately, I did not catch this update from Bungie until after I completed the sub-class Quest. The fact that missing Quest rewards won’t be granted retroactively means I will not be able to obtain the Defender emblem without deleting my current Titan character and starting all over. Something I’m liable to not do for just one emblem.

The sub-class Quests are given out by the three Vanguard leaders in the Vanguard Hall. You can go ahead and take the steps to complete them. Just don’t turn them in until Destiny: The Taken King launches on September 15.

Destiny: The Taken King (PlayStation, Xbox)

Here are the other issues that are outstanding with the Destiny 2.0 update. The most pressing is a bug that occurs for Xbox One players when purchasing The Taken King from the in-game menu. It sounds like you are better off buying the expansion directly from the Xbox Store instead.

“Some players are able to access Emblems and Shaders from the Weapons Pack, SUROS Arsenal Pack and Collector’s Edition Exotic Guardian Class Items before 9/15/2015. All items will be made available to eligible players on 9/15/2015. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion that may have been caused.

“We’re aware of an issue where players may experience a Destiny application crash/freeze when multiple status effects are active. We’re actively investigating this matter.

“Xbox One players who have purchased The Taken King Collector’s Edition Upgrade via the in-game prompt are unable to install the added content at this time. We’re aware of this matter and are actively investigating.”
