Nuketown Returns With ‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3’ Pre-Orders

Just as it would not be the same if Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launched without Zombies, multiplayer would not be the same without the Nuketown map. This map has been a staple of the series, and Activision confirmed its return today. There’s a catch though for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC shooter, though.

The new Nuk3town (sic) map will only be available with pre-orders of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and possibly some copies during launch. Those who pre-order from a retailer will find a code for the map packed in with the case. Those who pre-order digitally will have the map automatically added to their download queue at launch.

“This fan favorite map from Black Ops has returned in a big way for PS4, Xbox One and PC. It has been re-designed from the ground up to highlight Treyarch’s new momentum-based, chained-movement system, allowing players to battle in this adrenaline-charged new NUK3TOWN map. Set in the year 2065, players will experience a fresh take on this classic run-and-gun, close-quarters multiplayer map.”

Nuketown first launched with the original Black Ops with the theme of a model 1950s town right before a nuclear bomb test. It quickly became a favorite of Call of Duty players due to its tight spacing that fit the fast gameplay.

The map returned as Nuketown 2055 in Black Ops 2 with an updated retro-futuristic look and feel. There was also the Nuketown Zombies map that was available to those who picked up special editions of the game before later going on sale on the Xbox Marketplace and PlayStation Store.

For those worried they won’t pick up Black Ops 3 at launch and will miss out on the Nuk3town map, it will likely be available as a purchasable DLC. Activision hasn’t announced anything yet, but that is the pattern that is usually followed. It’s a matter of when, not if.

“The Nuketown maps have a special place in Call of Duty multiplayer history and we can’t wait to build upon that heritage in Black Ops III,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head of Treyarch. “We carefully adapted the design of the map to make sure that it fit with our new movement system, but to also make sure that we retained the spirit and the fun that made fans fall in love with it in the first place.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is due out on November 6 for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. The last-gen ports for the game are being handled by a separate studio while Treyarch focuses on the current-gen and PC release.

Note though that the Nuk3town promotion will only be available on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
