‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Toys Reveal Two New Alien Characters

Just four days remain until the first wave of Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise hits store shelves, and recently leaked images of several previously unseen action figures have confirmed the existence of two new alien characters to fans.

Though Force Friday is several days away, images of the action figures and other tie-in merchandise that will be made available have steadily leaked online over the course of the last few weeks. Most notably, Hasbro’s 63-page-long catalog of Star Wars toys emerged online, detailing the manufacturer’s entire line. As Yahoo News points out, that publication revealed the existence of a new character, Constable Zuvio, and now the images of two new figures have done the same.

The toys depict aliens new to the Star Wars universe, and though one has been observed before (albeit briefly), names have now also been established for both of the characters. The first of the two is named Sarco Plank, and as SlashFilm points out, this character appears to be some type of scavenger that inhabits the planet Jakku (site of the crashed Star Destroyer observed in the film’s most recent trailer). Sarco Plank’s connection to Jakku is established not only by the fact that the alien’s action figure ships with artwork that mimics the desert surface of the planet (which can also be seen with the figures of Finn and Rey), but also because the character has previously been observed in the background of an on-set photo.

Several months ago, Vanity Fair ran a cover story and photo spread featuring The Force Awakens, which was responsible for confirming that Gwendoline Christie would appear as Captain Phasma (among other revelations). One of the photos showed J.J. Abrams directing Daisy Ridley as Rey, and in the background of that image, Sarco Plank is clearly visible, along with another apparent member of his species.

The second character to be revealed is an alien pilot, named Asty. Very little is known about this character, but based upon his uniform and the figure’s packaging, it appears that Asty is a pilot on the side of the resistance. Merchandisers are notorious for releasing figures that have very little (and often completely tangential) appearances in previous Star Wars films, however, meaning Asty may be a side character at best.

Fans will likely find that much more is revealed to them in just a few days when the first wave of Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise is released.
