Bindi Irwin’s ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Partner Will Be Derek Hough [Video]

Bindi Irwin is going to be Derek Hough’s celebrity partner during Season 21 of Dancing with the Stars; hopefully, Derek is ready to do the Crocodile Rock.

Mingle Media TV host Kristyn Burtt interviewed Derek Hough at the Television Academy’s Choreographers Emmy Nominee Reception, and she got the pro dancer to admit that Bindi Irwin will be his partner. Burtt broke the news on Twitter.

Burtt also shared a video of Derek Hough talking about Bindi Irwin’s positive personality. He had nothing but good things to say about the 17-year-old animal lover, and it sounds like he’s extremely excited about working with her.

“You talk about somebody who literally finds joy in every second of the day — it’s hard to describe,” Derek said. “She’s so connected to the Earth and to wildlife and to the world.” He was so in awe of Bindi that he couldn’t resist gushing about her just a bit more.

“There’s a sense of wonderment and joy and life just spewing out of her that’s contagious and amazing. It literally just makes you want to be a better person.”

Bindi Irwin is the adorable Aussie daughter of the late Steve Irwin, an enthusiastic TV personality known as the Crocodile Hunter. On his TV series of the same name, the wildlife expert educated viewers about animals by capturing and releasing them while sharing tidbits of trivia about their habitats and behavior. The Crocodile Hunter passed away in 2006, but his exuberance and love of wildlife lives on in his daughter.

During an interview with ABC News about her casting on Dancing with the Stars, Bindi revealed that she had a very odd dance partner when she was younger: a magpie goose.

“My best friend was a magpie goose and my magpie goose would follow me around and we’d dance in the zoo together,” she revealed. Maybe she can convince Derek to dress up like her feathered friend for one of their dance numbers.

Bindi said she wants to make her dad proud, and it sounds like she’s going to be a hard worker.

“Whatever the opposite of a procrastinator is, that was him… and I think I kind of inherited a little bit of that. I’m hoping to make dad proud.”

According to E! News, Bindi gave Dancing with the Stars fans a sneak preview of her dancing skills in one of ABC’s promos for Season 21 of the reality series. Eight celebrity DWTS contestants have been officially announced so far, and seven of them have started their intense training by doing the Nae Nae. Below you can see Bindi’s take on the popular dance.

You can watch Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough bring the outback to the ballroom when Dancing with the Stars premieres September 14 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. The complete cast will be announced September 2 on Good Morning America.
