‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6 Promises Fans The Most Suffocating Beginning Yet

Fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead are already wondering how Season 6 will open when it debuts in October of this year. But recently, Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Greene, talked about how the season will begin and how it will then challenge the characters as they stride towards the hope of a more civilized world than the one they currently live in.

When interviewed by Entertainment Weekly recently, Lauren Cohan describes the upcoming Season 6 premiere of The Walking Dead as having the “most suffocating beginning” that she has experienced so far. While it may be suffocating in the Season 6 premiere because of the sheer amount of walkers reported (654, according to io9‘s coverage of this year’s San Diego Comic Con) and the crazy amount of storylines (18, according to fellow cast mate, Andrew Lincoln, who plays main character Rick Grimes), she also jested at the way the writers for The Walking Dead sit in an air-conditioned office while they write out the battle scenes for the show.

As well as the chance of an opening episode that just might rival the intense premiere episode of Season 5 of The Walking Dead, Lauren Cohan also promises that the characters will have to, once again, reevaluate their determination to strive “in the direction of civility or civilization and a more regimented society.” While this is pretty standard fare for Walking Dead plots, when you throw that many walkers into the mix, no doubt some people will snap. Lauren was quick to agree with what fellow cast mate, Steven Yeun (who plays Glenn Rhee, her character’s boyfriend) had to say about the emotional roller-coaster Season 6 will be for many of the characters in The Walking Dead.

“[The Walking Dead is] about being really challenged. So we’ll see a ton of challenges and we’ll see people the audience has been introduced to as very stable reliable characters crumbling, and I think it’s going to be pretty scary.”

It seems like Rick may have some friends join him in the crazy corner in the upcoming season of The Walking Dead. And if the Season 5 finale is anything to go by, Rick has already pulled up a chair there.
