Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis Ordered To Issue Same-Sex Marriage Licenses
Rowan County, Kentucky, Clerk Kim Davis has been slapped down by the 6th Circuit Court in regard to her refusal to issue marriage licenses to homosexual couples. LEX 18 News reports that the woman has cited religious reasons for her refusal, but now she must begin issuing licenses as immediately as Monday. This comes as wonderful news to the couples who were denied in Rowan county, and serves as a small victory to the LGBTQ community nationwide.
The New Civil Rights Movement reports that a three-judge panel has refused to allow Davis to continue denying the issuance of marriage licenses. The popular blog also has access to the court documents, which fully explain the 6th Circuit Court’s ruling. The Court of Appeals issued a few definitive statements regarding the woman’s endeavor to refuse issuing marriage licenses.
“There is thus little or no likelihood that the clerk in her official capacity will prevail on appeal.”
Kim Davis is also being sued by a total of eight people — Two same-sex couples and two heterosexual couples. She is being sued for her refusal to issue marriage licenses, and one of the attorneys representing the couples issued a statement surrounding the 6th Circuit Court decision.
“We sincerely hope that she complies with the injunction and begins issuing licenses as is her job.”
County Clerk Kim Davis became “media famous” when she refused to honor the SCOTUS ruling on same-sex marriage. The Kentucky woman cited her religious convictions for the reasoning behind refusing to issue marriage licenses. Her actions have sparked both furor and support. Social media is alight with discussion about her refusal to issue marriage licenses, and passions are running high. Of course, it appears that most of the sentiment on social media is being expressed against the woman.

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis needs to do her duty or stop collecting a check. How many divorces did she block for religious reasons? Hateful — Jack Berlin (@jackaberlin) August 26, 2015

Do you support the 6th Circuit Court’s decision to make the woman issue marriage licenses, or do you support her religious reasoning behind her refusal?
