Kylo Ren: More Details About ‘Star Wars’ Villain Revealed [Photos]

We know Kylo Ren is the man clad in all black wielding that new, cross-shaped lightsaber. But we don’t know much about him or what his motives are in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

He definitely belongs to the dark side and like many of the new characters, his role is still a mystery. Ever since he appeared in the first teaser trailer released on Thanksgiving Friday last year, fans have been wondering what is up with the new antagonist portrayed by Adam Driver.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams has successfully kept the plot of this new installment mostly secret, even though he confessed a lot of the theories floating around are correct. Of course, he will not elaborate on which ones, but suggested if you study things closely you can probably figure a lot of things out.

As far as Kylo Ren is concerned, a new image from Empire shows us new costume details, this time from the front. We had one look from this angle, when Vanity Fair released several stills taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, earlier this summer; however, we could see Driver’s face in the image.

Some SPOILERS regarding the plot are coming ahead. Read at your own risk.

Despite all the secrecy, Abrams revealed that Kylo Ren is not a Sith, as one could conclude from his imposing presence and dark attire.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Abrams revealed that Kylo Ren is obsessed with Darth Vader.

“The movie explains the origins of the mask and where it’s from, but the design was meant to be a nod to the Vader mask.”

“(Ren) is well aware of what’s come before, and that’s very much a part of the story of the film.”

Remember when we first saw the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser last year and everyone was talking about the cross lightsaber and how in the world Kylo Ren manages to use it without chopping his hand off? Abrams also talked about that.

“The lightsaber is something that he built himself, and is as dangerous and as fierce and as ragged as the character,” Abrams explained.

So there you have it. Some details, but we will have to wait to see Kylo Ren in all his glory, when Star Wars: The Force Awakens lands in theaters on December 18. More to come as the release date nears. Stay tuned.
