Bears In New Jersey Pool: Family Of Black Bears Beat The Heat In Family Pool

A family of black bears found a unique way to beat the scorching summer heat when they decided to take a dip in a New Jersey pool.

According to Fox News, Tim Basso and his family witnessed the mama bear and her five cubs frolicking about in their above ground pool, and later uploaded a video online to YouTube to show the unusual scene. Not only did the bears enjoy a much-needed swim, they also utilized everything the pool had to offer, including Basso’s daughter’s pool toys and the slide. This didn’t sit well with the 3-year-old and 5-year-old girls, and they can be heard yelling “No!” as one of the cubs snatched up their inflatable pool float.

“I wish they were in someone else’s back yard,” one of the children can be heard saying, while the other one yelled, “No way! My floatie!” NBC News New York reported.

Basso and his wife originally thought the bears were just stopping by to grab a quick drink. However, they ended up staying for more than an hour as the family safely watched from inside of their Rockaway Township home in New Jersey.

“They’re acting almost like people, hanging out in the pool — having a good time and cooling off,” Basso said.

Basso said it is not unusual for his family to see bears in the backyard, and they typically make a pass through at least once a year. While most of the time they are harmless, it doesn’t keep Basso from worrying when his children go outside to play.

“I don’t want to turn my back for too long on my kids if they’re playing in the backyard,” he said.
