Bishop T.D. Jakes has a new talk show on TV, called The T.D. Jakes Show, which is being shown via selected TV stations in certain cities for a four-week trial run.
Some of the most popular TV show episodes from Jakes can be seen on the T.D. Jakes Show YouTube channel, with a recent episode featuring Jakes speaking to the moms of individuals whose deaths have sparked nationwide outcries. Those names include Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, and Sandra Bland.
With the new talk show, Jakes wants to add positivity to daytime TV, reports the Fort Worth Star Telegram. Perhaps Jakes is hoping to fill the shoes vacated by Oprah — and add to the mix of “You’re not the father!” talk shows something with more substance.
“There has been a steep decline of positive content on daytime television,” Jakes explained.
The T.D. Jakes Show can be seen, reports the Dallas Morning News, in cities like Dallas on WFAA-TV. It can also be viewed in Atlanta, Minneapolis, and Cleveland during the month-long run. The hour-long show is being tested in those markets, replacing reruns of the Rachael Ray cooking show.
The well-known leader of the Dallas megachurch The Potter’s House has been in the spotlight for years as a successful pastor, author, and filmmaker. Now that Jakes is trying his hand at a TV talk show, it doesn’t seem like new territory for the man. Jakes has appeared with talk show mavens Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Phil in the past, making him a familiar sight to those who don’t watch his sermons. Dr. Phil, meanwhile, has been regaling viewers with his 20/20 Diet book, as reported by the Inquisitr.
Sorted by the most-viewed episodes, thus far the Jakes YouTube channel proves that the premiere episode has racked up the most views. That initial episode has gained more than 10,000 views in the three days since it was uploaded to YouTube.
Other episodes from Jakes have focused on attacking the bad choices that people can make — not the individuals themselves. Also, Jakes had an episode about cheating wherein he encouraged a married man to confess his adultery. Parenting tips and racial issues have appeared on Jakes’ show.
