John Leguizamo will join the cast of Netflix’s Bloodline in season 2. He will play the role of Ozzy Delvecchio, a character who will return from Danny’s (played by Ben Mendelsohn) past and wreak further havoc on the Rayburn family.
WARNING: This article about John Leguizamo contains spoilers about season 1 of Bloodline. If you have not watched up to and including the season 1 finale, please proceed with caution.
TV Line posted the following description of John Leguizamo’s Bloodline role:
“Leguizamo’s character, Ozzy Delvecchio, is a charming, violent, opportunistic wild card from Danny’s past who, in the wake of Danny’s murder, arrives in the Florida Keys with mysterious motives and threatens to wreak havoc in the lives of the Rayburn’s.”
Todd A. Kessler, Glenn Kessler and Daniel Zelman, the executive producers of Bloodline also released the following statement to TV Line in relation to John Leguizamo joining the series:
“We’ve been huge fans of John [Leguizamo]’s acting and writing for many years, and are absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with him. His enormous range and fearless creativity make him a perfect fit for this character — and an incredible addition to the stellar cast we’re so fortunate to be working with.”
Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn will also return to season 2 of Bloodline as a series regular. This is in spite of the fact Danny was murdered by his brother, John (Kyle Chandler) in season 1. As executive producer Glenn Kessler pointed out recently at the TCA summer press tour, the past is always present in Bloodline, and the exploration of Danny — and therefore, by extension, John Leguizamo’s new character — will be possible in season 2, regardless of the status of a character.
“The DNA of the show is such that the past is always with us. We’re going to learn more about Danny’s effect on the family and more about his past, and also what his effects are in the present day. There’s a very important story that we’re interested in telling that includes [Danny].”
John Leguizamo is probably best known for his roles in movies such as Moulin Rouge and Love in the Time of Cholera, as well as his TV roles ER and My Name Is Earl. He also did voice-overs for both Dora The Explorer and the Ice Age movies (as the character Sid) and will be starring in the upcoming American Ultra movie.
Bloodline’s season 2 will premiere in 2016 on Netflix.
