Watch San Francisco Giants Vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Live Online Free: Streaming Info, Start Time

As Major League Baseball heads into the home stretch of its 2015 season, fans can watch a key National League matchup live online for free Thursday as the San Francisco Giants head into Pittsburgh to face the Pirates in the first of a four game series — a set that will wind up a seven-game road trip for San Francisco who will have played 17 of their last 24 games on the road by the time they head back to Bay Area next week.

Though the Giants lost two of three to the St. Louis Cardinals to open the current road trip, they still sit just two games behind their division-leading arch-rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the National League West.

Pittsburgh, while they still trail the NL Central-topping Cardinals by five games, hold a 3-and-a-half game lead in the Wild Card standings — and a seven-game lead in the Wild Card over third place San Francisco.

On the mound for the Giants, 34-year-old 14-year veteran Jake Peavy makes his 11th appearance of the season, but despite a sluggish 3-5 record with a 4.18 ERA in 56 innings, Peavy — who spent the first seven-plus seasons of his career in the National League before departing for the Chicago White Sox and then Boston Red Sox until his trade to the Giants in 2014 — has always pitched well against Pitsburgh, with a career 5-2 mark and solid 2.52 ERA.

But this year’s Pirates team is worlds apart from the Pittsburgh lineups that Peavy would have faced from 2002 to 2009. In fact, Pittsburgh has chewed up its National League West opposition this year, winning 16 of 19 games against West Division teams in 2015 — including a three-game whitewash of the Giants in San Francisco at the start of June.

Peavy did not pitch in that series. Nor did Thursday’s Pirates starter, 31-year-old righty Charlie Morton. But even though Morton has not pitched against San Francisco yet this year, in his eight-year career, he has faced the Giants 11 times and mostly held them in check, especially in Pittsburgh where he has allowed just six earned runs in 32 innings against the team that has owned three of the last five World Series titles.
