Dead Space 3 To Feature Drop-In, Drop-Out Co-Op?

On Monday, EA confirmed what many of us suspected–Dead Space 3, the third entry in its successful horror franchise, is in the works, and will be coming out at some point in the company’s third quarter of their 2012 fiscal year.

That Dead Space 3 is coming out at some point is all the company had to say, but today a report from IGN shed a little more light on what’s new with Dead Space 3.

According to the rumor, Dead Space 3 will be getting drop-in, drop-out co-op, with the second player taking on the role of an unnamed second survivor. There apparently won’t be much, if any, of a difference in the story when playing with or without a pal, so the co-op seems to be strictly optional.

IGN’s sources also claim that Dead Space 3 will feature a number of gameplay changes and additions, including the ability to crouch for cover, and protagonist Isaac Clarke will now be able to dodge away from enemy attacks by rolling.

The report goes on to discuss several other gameplay changes, including weapons. A weapon’s alternate fire mode will reportedly be more powerful than before, for example. The workbench has also seen a few new additions, possibly including the ability to mix and match parts to form a new weapon entirely.
