10 Things I Hate About You Sequel Confirmed

In a Hollywood trend that can only be described as sequels that should never happen, the icon teen film 10 Things I Hate About You is being continued with a second film.

The 1999 film that saw Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles rise to fame, has already proven that it can breathe a whole new life of its own — sort of. In 2009 a television show of the same title launched on ABC Family with the same plot in mind, two sisters who don’t get along go through the trials and tribulations of trying to make it through high school.

Despite the television show doing horribly which saw its demise and inevitable cancellation, Intandern Films and Mad Chance is going forward with the sequel as producers on the film.

As of right now the only original people from the first production returning are its producers and Gil Junger, the writer of the first film, who also plans to write this second chapter. Junger told the associated press that the inspiration of the new film after almost 13 years came from a film about the suicide of a man.

Junger goes on to explain his inspiration saying, “It is the story of two relatable, ordinary people with normal jobs and normal desires whose seemingly great lives have become unmanageable. Two people who go to the same place at the same time to end it. Their chance meeting is so awkward, so raw, and so funny, they postpone their intentions and go their separate ways.”

The original film, which is said to be loosely based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, starred Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will see a new successor in newcomer Hayley Atwell, who has been cast as the lead.
