Manchester United Transfer Rumors: David De Gea Out, Sergio Ramos In?

The Manchester United transfer saga of the summer continues as first-team goalkeeper David De Gea was dropped from the squad for the first game of the new Barclays Premier League season. The move from Manchester United’s manager, Louis van Gaal, was seen as a sign that De Gea could be one step closer to a move away from Old Traffor with Real Madrid his favored destination.

The Manchester United hierarchy is determined to get the best deal for David De Gea and at times have opted for cash plus player swap transfer. Manchester United have been negotiating Real Madrid throughout the summer yet both clubs are stuck at an impasse over several issues regarding the De Gea transfer. Manchester United is certainly not happy with how Real Madrid has handled the deal and van Gaal has expressed his annoyance with Real Madrid’s demeanor

“Manchester United always have to pay,” van Gaal said.

“We have to pay for all the players a certain amount, and what have Real Madrid offered? We are asking money and they have to pay the money. In the last few years Manchester United has paid a lot of money and we never received a lot of money for our players.”

The deal has been complicated by Madrid’s non-compliance to meet Manchester United valuation of David De Gea while Manchester United have been eyeing a deal that would involve Sergio Ramos moving to the Red Devils. However, Real Madrid are keen on holding on to the Spanish defender especially after the departure of Iker Casillas.

With David De Gea out of the squad, Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero made his debut in a 1-0 nil victory against Tottenham Hotspur. Romero was able to keep a clean sheet after a nervy start to the match. It was the third Premier League match in succession that Manchester United started with a different goalkeeper.
