Zayn Malik, Perrie Edwards Split: Is Malik Returning To One Direction After Ending Engagement?

Zayn Malik

By now, you’ve surely heard the latest with Zayn Malik. Zayn recently ended his engagement to Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, months after he left One Direction to pursue a solo career. Now, word on the street is Malik may be returning to One Direction in the wake of his engagement to Edwards ending.

As Hollywood Life learned, rumors that Malik may be coming back were sparked when Zayn’s profile reappeared on the official One Direction website, prompting fans to launch into a Twitter craze using the hashtag #Zayniscomingback. Don’t get too excited yet, though, Directioners; there’s still room for debate as to whether Zayn really is coming back.

Malik allegedly left One Direction because he wanted to pursue a career creating a different style of music than One Direction did, though he never specified exactly what that meant. Malik was quoted on Twitter as saying he intended to start making “real” music during his solo career. Zayn’s engagement to Perrie Edwards ended last week.

While there isn’t any solid proof that Malik is coming back to One Direction, Zayn does appear to have made peace with his former bandmates. As the Sydney Morning-Herald noted, Malik tweeted to One Direction to show his love for the band’s first single without him, “Drag Me Down.”

Malik’s first single sans One Direction was entitled “No Type,” and came out this past July. It seems Malik’s solo career has been doing just fine without One Direction. Inquisitr noted that he recently signed a deal with 50 Cent, and Malik was also accompanied by rapper Mic Righteous in his video for “No Type.” Even if Malik wants to come back to One Direction, there is a question of whether he will be welcomed back after walking out on the band in March of this year. It seems that One Direction was upset by Zayn’s absence, but understood why he had to leave.

Malik signed with RCA Records shortly after departing One Direction, and also cited his desire to relax and have time to act like a normal 22-year-old as reasons for leaving the band. Malik tweeted to fans earlier today to tease that his new album was coming soon and will be worth the wait.

Malik’s departure back in March also got him proverbial pats on the back from Simon Cowell, who runs the record label that One Direction is signed to. While it’s not evident yet whether Zayn will be returning, there’s certainly enough buzz to get the Twitterverse going. Do you think the rumors of Zayn’s return hold any water, and why or why not?
