Grieving Mother Forced To Take DNA Test So Baby’s Murdered Father Is Added To Birth Certificate

A grieving mother is forced to get a DNA test so her murdered partner’s name could be added to their baby’s birth certificate.

The heartbreak for Natalie Preece, 28, knows no bounds, after her partner was stabbed to death before he could meet his unborn daughter. Michealee Emmett, 29, was brutally stabbed to death by Connor Doughton, 16, after he helped escort him safely back to his parents’ home, according to Wales Online.

Emmett was left in a coma and fought for his life for 32 days; however, he was unable to sign his daughter Lola-Grace’s birth certificate. The grieving mother says the government forced her to take a DNA test to prove the murdered man is the baby’s father.

“Lola-Grace had to give a DNA sample which has now been positively matched with Mike’s parents.”

“Despite this I still have to go through a court hearing and there is still a blank space on her birth certificate were Mike’s name should be. If we had been married his name would have been added automatically.”

“It’s frustrating and it has taken too long already, but I have to keep going. Michaelee was such a proud dad and it will mean so much to see his name where it belongs.”

On August 1, 2014, Michaelee — a demolition worker — thought he was doing the right thing when he took the 16-year-old to his parents’ home after he was abusive to a woman outside a pub. When they got to the house, the teen ran into to kitchen, grabbed a knife, and stabbed the father-to-be three times.

Michaelee — who was also father to eight-year-old twins, Logan and Riley — died from his injuries before meeting his daughter. Lola-Grace will turn one on August 27, and the grieving mother expects to still be tied up in the proceedings necessary to have the father’s name added to her birth certificate.

After her birth, Natalee took her newborn baby girl to the hospital where Michaelee was in a coma and laid her in his arms, placing her tiny hand in his. The grieving mother is devastated and her life has been turned upside down, and adding insult to injury, the fact that the couple wasn’t married means she has to take the DNA test to confirm his paternity.

“Losing Michealee has affected every single part of my life. What has happened has robbed us of nearly everything we had that made us such a happy family.”

“Since the boy took away my soulmate, my whole life has been devastated in every way. Michaelee was lying in hospital for 28 days, he was in agony this whole time, not knowing whether he would live or die.”

A Home Office spokesperson told Wales Online that in cases where a parent dies before the birth of a child, a court has to make sure that all information is recorded accurately and whether the DNA test is needed. The grieving mother is receiving help from a victims support group who has found her counsel and helped with all her legal fees. The crime occurred in Wales.
