Caitlyn Jenner's new reality show cum documentary finally premiered and immediately established the tone and direction of the show. Unlike other shows that were all flash and scripted situations geared towards generating controversy, I am Cait was subdued, even bordering on blah at times, but undeniably realistic. Of course, there were also lighthearted moments, like when Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West dropped by for a visit
The couple arrived midway through the premiere episode. Kim greeted her erstwhile stepfather enthusiastically, telling her that she looked beautiful, while Kanye West respectfully stayed back until Caitlyn introduced him to her sisters and mother.
They talked for several minutes, catching up with each other's lives. At one point, Kim exclaimed how skinny Caitlyn has gotten.
"You literally look like Kendall," she gushed. "Like Kendall's mom."
It was then that Kanye spoke out about his admiration for what Caitlyn has done, and is still doing, just to be true to herself.
"I think it's one of the strongest things that have happened in our...existence as human beings that are so controlled by perception," Kanye said, his admiration for Caitlyn's bravery palpable and sincere.
"'Cause you couldn't have been up against more," the volatile rapper continued. "Your daughter's a supermodel, you're a celebrity...every type of thing, and it was still like, 'F*** everybody, this is who I am.'"
@kanyewest made a touching cameo on the premiere of @Caitlyn_Jenner's I Am Cait. http://t.co/zCXr3jrbcg pic.twitter.com/olU6wkvm2UThis was high praise indeed, coming from the Yeezus artist. The fact that a number of hip-hop artists have openly expressed their disdain for transgenders while Kanye has been very vocal of his support and acceptance of Caitlyn's transition is groundbreaking and momentous.

But the 38-year-old record producer's actions shouldn't come as a surprise. Those who have followed Caitlyn's story know that it was Kanye West who turned Kim around and made her more accepting of her stepfather's situation. Caitlyn even discussed this in detail during her interview with Diane Sawyer.
Kanye's very vocal support appears to still touch Caitlyn and she explained later in the show how crucial the rapper was in helping her stepdaughter deal with her transition.
"Kanye and I have never really been very close," the former Olympian admits. "But I love his open-mindedness. I love how he's helped Kim come to grips with what's going on."
As it turns out, the premiere episode of I am Cait was a quiet, satisfying and very mature inside look at how Jenner is coping with her first few months as a woman. Kim and Kanye West's surprise appearance only underlined how the show will continue to blaze trails in terms of how reality shows can entertain and enlighten at the same time.
