With the Barclays Premier League season set to open in just two weeks, fans of English football can get one more pre-season look at last season’s third-place finishers Arsenal as they face German Bundesliga side VFL Wolfsburg in the second and final Emirates Cup match for both teams.
Wolfsburg placed second in the 2014-2105 edition of the Bundesliga, so the Emirates Cup match promises to provide a good measuring stick for both teams to evaluate where they stand heading into the upcoming world football season. The Bundesliga season opens one week after the Barclays Premier League campaign.

Arsenal has hosted the pre-season, four-team Emirates Cup invitational each year since 2007. But after winning that inaugural edition of the Emirates Cup, Arsenal have defended their home ground by winning the trophy just two more times, in 2009 and 2010.
Spanish side Valencia hoisted the trophy in the two-day competition last year.
In the two Saturday Emirates Cup matches, another Spanish invitee, Villareal, edged Wolfsburg 2-1, while Arsenal put an exclamation point on their intentions to win the cup this time around, blowing away Olympique Lyonnais — second-place finishers in France’s Ligue 1 — by a devastating 6-0 score.
The game was never in doubt, as four different Arsenal goal scorers found the back of the net in just the first nine minutes, leaving Lyon with little to play for except pride. But even that eluded the Ligue 1 squad, as Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla added to the first half tallies by Olivier Giroud, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alex Iwobi, and Aaron Ramsey to sent Lyon packing.
