Watch Six Minutes Of Disney’s ‘Descendants’: Will Mitchell Hope Become The Next Zac Efron? [Video]

Disney’s Descendants is a mash-up of High School Musical and every Disney fairy tale movie ever created, and it looks like stars Dove Cameron and Mitchell Hope might be the new Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron.

According to MovieWeb, Disney’s Descendants is a musical TV movie set in a far away kingdom where Beauty and the Beast royals Belle (Keegan Connor Tracy) and her now-human Beast (Dan Payne) are the rulers of the kingdom of Auradon. They have a son named Prince Ben (Mitchell Hope) who is preparing to become king, and his first official proclamation shocks his parents — he wants them to allow the children of banished villains to attend Auradon Prep boarding school. This is where the offspring of “good” fairytale characters like Snow White and Cinderella learn to be heroes.

The Disney Channel recently shared the first six minutes of the Descendants online, and you can check it out below. As you can see, the House of Mouse has given the classic storybook a modern-day makeover, and Beauty and the Beast’s castle also received an upgrade — they have a Foosball table and fitness equipment.

Poor Prince Ben is getting fitted for a cheap plastic crown just like his dear old dad’s when he makes his decision to invite the villains’ evil offspring to attend school in Auradon. These kids include Maleficent’s daughter Mal (Dove Cameron), Jafar’s son Jay (Booboo Stewart), Cruella de Vil’s son Carlos (Cameron Boyce) and the Evil Queen’s daughter Evie (Sofia Carson).

As the Inquisitr previously reported, the Descendants cast also includes Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent, but she doesn’t make an appearance in the video above. Based on Mal’s bad attitude, Chenoweth’s Maleficent might not be quite as kind as Angelina Jolie’s redeemed version of the villain.

Dove Cameron’s purple-haired Mal is obviously the leader of the villainous bunch, and her idea of being bad is brightening boring walls with graffiti and bullying the miserable-looking residents of the Isle of the Lost while they try to do their laundry. It seems pretty obvious that benevolent Prince Ben will eventually melt Mal’s wicked heart.

According to Entertainment Weekly, one of the songs featured in Descendants is a peppy hip-hop remix of the beloved Beauty and the Beast song “Be Our Guest.” This will likely be the tune that Mitchell Hope’s Prince Ben will be belting out when the villains first arrive in Auradon.

Descendants is being directed by Kenny Ortega, the man who helped make the High School Musical movies such huge hits. Those movies helped launch the careers of numerous stars, including Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale. A few of the Descendants actors and actresses already have recognizable names — Dove Cameron stars on the Disney Channel series Liv and Maddie, and Booboo Stewart appeared in the Twilight movies. However, Descendants just might be Mitchell Hope’s big break. During an interview with Kidzworld, Mitchell revealed that he had to decided to give up on his dream of becoming an actor right before he got the chance to audition in the Disney movie.

“I did a few little shows on Aussie TV, just little things then finally my agent called. I had quit acting right before I got this audition for Descendants. It’s time for me to go get a ‘real’ job. You know my parents were breathing down my back. So, my agent said, ‘Just do this one audition.'”

Descendants premieres July 31 at 8 p.m. ET on the Disney Channel. Do you think it will help Mitchell Hope become the next Zac Efron?
