Bride Killed By Lightning: Colorado Bride Dies On Hike Just Six Days After Wedding

A bride killed by lightning in Colorado is making headlines today. According to the New York Daily News, 31-year-old Kathleen Bartlett was on a hike with her husband when they were both struck by lightning. Kathleen was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband of just six days, 32-year-old Ryan Pocius, was flown to Colorado Springs hospital for treatment. He is currently listed in stable condition (some reports indicate that he has already been released from the hospital).

“Storm watchers estimated roughly 300 strikes struck the mountain about the same time Bartlett and Pocius were hit. Two other hikers were hit on the same afternoon but survived with only minor injuries.”

The bride killed by lightning had recently posted a couple of wedding photos on Facebook, and she and her groom were enjoying their first week of married life when the tragedy occurred.

According to the Canada Journal, friends have been honoring Katie with sweet words, remembering her life, and expressing deep sadness for her new husband.

“She was an incredible and dedicated educator who touched many lives through her care for young children and her support of families. We hope to honor her through the continued advocacy of young children.”

“Katie was honestly one of the kindest, brightest and loving souls I’ve ever had the honor of knowing. She cared deeply for her fellow man and was a force of good wherever she was,” said friend Martin Armendariz.

“We called her Katie-Bug. She was a soft, gentle breeze in any space she graced. Our family is saddened by her passing, yet certain that Katie-Bug is in a loving, blissful and perfect space,” said Grace Jaquez-Chase.

The bride killed by lightning, and her groom had still had their wedding webpage set up. In paragraphs, the couple told their sweet story, and shared their love with their friends and family, all of whom celebrated in their union just days ago. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the couple met at a bar (Katie was reportedly working as a waitress at the time), and dated for just six months before getting engaged.

“We ended up having more things in common than we first thought, including a shared appreciation for kids’ movies, yoga, sarcasm and love for the outdoors. It became apparent very quickly that we had both found ‘our person.’ Six months after we started dating seriously, we found ourselves engaged, and the rest is history!”
