Charlie Puth Is Ascending The ‘Billboard’ Charts

At 10-years-old, Charlie Puth was already studying jazz and classical music, and at 11, Puth was making his own CDs, selling his home-produced Christmas album to neighbors. Young American singer/songwriter Charlie Puth is quickly gaining popularity.

Charlie began uploading acoustic cover songs to YouTube in 2009, and after hearing his cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You,” Ellen Degeneres signed him to her label. Puth switched from Ellen’s label, eleveneleven, to Atlantic Records in 2014. Before switching to Atlantic, Charlie released two independent albums on iTunes, titled Ego and The Otto Tunes, which were removed when he signed with Atlantic Records.

The hit song from the Furious 7 soundtrack, “When I See You Again,” saw Wiz Khalifa team up with Charlie Puth to create one of Billboard’s top rap songs. After 12 weeks at number one on the Billboard charts, “When I See You Again” is tied with “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas for the #1 longest leading rap song.

On the up-and-coming remix of his popular single with Meghan Trainor, “Marvin Gaye,” Puth collaborates with rapper Wale. The combination of Charlie’s easy Motown sound and Wale’s smooth flow create a hit that Jeff Moore of Musicdash says may “become a genre transcending crossover hit.

Charlie and Lil Wayne sing about how “…instagram girls are nothing but trouble” on the soundtrack for 808. The track has yet to register on the Billboard charts, but if Puth’s prior work is any indicator, we can expect “Nothing But Trouble” to rise as well.

Charlie Puth has also collaborated with Jason Derulo, Trey Songs, and Stevie Wonder. In a recent interview with Billboard, Charlie was asked if there are any other artists he would like to collaborate with.

“This might be a weird answer, but James Taylor. He’s the reason why I write music. If he’s reading this — James Taylor, I’d love to work with you! My mom would put headphones on her belly before I was born, so I’ve been listening to him literally all of my life. When my dad played me “Walking Man,” I heard those chord changes and that melody, it completely blew me away. Maybe you wouldn’t really hear the James Taylor influences in my music, but they’re definitely buried in there.”

Well, James Taylor, the ball’s in your court, and fans would most-likely love to hear a James Taylor/Charlie Puth collaboration in the near future.
