One Illinois waiter has definitely learned the magnitude of a first impression because he recently touched the heart of a stranger he served at the Smokey Barque in downtown Frankfort, Illinois, where he worked.

According to Patch.com, 19-year-old Brendan Motill’s interaction with the stranger began like any other encounter with a restaurant patron. The conversation was relatively stationary, but their fellowship quickly surpassed the typical salutation. Before long, they reportedly found themselves chatting about life, as the man had recently relocated to the area. The two even discussed taxes. Needless to say, it was a gratifying exchange.

By the end of the restaurant visit, the stranger felt compelled to let Motill know just how much of an impact he made. The stranger handed Motill the receipt and his credit card to pay for the $20.31 meal. After processing the transaction, the man signed the receipt and told Motill, “I hope it goes through!” Initially, Motill had no idea what the strangers words meant, but he eventually figured it out. When he looked down at the receipt, he noticed the stranger had included a generous tip — $1,000 to be exact.

According to Hello Giggles, the stranger also included a profound note that speaks volumes. The receipt was also signed, “Tips For Jesus.”

Thanks for your kind service! You’re doing a great job as a server. I don’t know what your hopes and dreams are in this life, but I hope this tip helps.

My hope is that people were more peaceful to each other. The world can be so negative, I commit random acts of kindness to let others know there can be another way.

Once a photo of the note and receipt began circulating online, local news outlets reached out to Motill almost immediately. During a recent news interview, Motill recounted the heartwarming experience and his reaction to the sizable tip.

“It was really emotional. I had to take a second and calm down,” Motill said. “He left me the tip, and by the time I got it, he was gone. Very humble. Left before I could even thank him. I was speechless.”
