Why Rob Kardashian Didn’t Attend The ESPY Awards To Support Caitlyn Jenner

Rob Kardashian has been adamant about his decision to remain out of the spotlight since bailing on sister Kim Kardashian’s wedding to Kanye West last year. However, as the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan gathered to support Caitlyn Jenner at the ESPY Awards on July 15, where was Rob?

Caitlyn Jenner, who was honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award during the ceremony, had most of her kids in attendance for her big night. Khloe Kardashian took to Instagram to share a fun family photo of the group just prior to the ceremony, showing Jenner’s biological children and stepchildren coming together to honor her for the big celebration. However, fans pointed out that Rob Kardashian was noticeably absent from the awards ceremony, leading some to wonder why Rob had decided to skip out on Jenner’s big night.

According to sources close to Rob, the reality star just wasn’t feeling up to being in the spotlight as he continues to struggle with weight gain and depression, Hollywood Life reports.

“Rob isn’t going to join the rest of the family at the ESPY awards to support Caitlyn. He’s just too caught up in his own world to pull himself together and show up. He says no way is he going to deal with all that craziness.”

Despite missing out on the awards show, the source insists that Rob is offering his support for Caitlyn from afar.

“He’s depressed and embarrassed about how he looks as well. He also hasn’t even talked to Caitlyn that much since the transition Rob hasn’t gone to a single event in a year—not even Kim’s wedding—so he’s not going to start tonight. He will probably post a supportive tweet but that’s about it.”

The news comes only a few weeks after Rob was seen making a rare public appearance while out for a late-night food run to burger chain In-N-Out in Woodland Hills, C.A.

When asked how Rob is coping with his weight gain and depression, a source close to the Kardashian family tells People Magazine that Rob is still having a difficult time getting back on track.

“He’s still struggling. He just can’t get motivated. Everyone is trying to be encouraging, but for the most part he doesn’t want to hear what he already knows.”

The source adds that Rob is “sad, he’s bitter, he’s single,” adding that, “He is very depressed and has been [for a while]. It’s really hard for him that his sisters are so public and he looks like the shut-in.”

Despite Rob even remaining mum on his social media accounts, the Kardashian took to Twitter last month to offer his support for Jenner, telling Caitlyn, “You have always been a role model to me and now more than ever, I look up to you. LOVE YOU!!”
