Rapper Young Thug Arrested After Allegedly Threatening To Shoot Mall Cop In The Face [Video]

Rapper Young Thug was arrested in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, early Wednesday morning. According to the New York Times, United States Marshals took the 23-year-old recording artist into custody over allegations that he threatened to shoot a mall security officer in the face last week. He is charged with a felony count of making “terroristic threats.”

Indie music news website Pigeons and Planes cited a report from an eyewitness from the July 7 incident who reported that a security officer confronted Young Thug — whose real name is Jeffrey Williams — because the rapper and his entourage were riding recreational vehicles called Hovertrax around the Perimeter Mall in Atlanta. Young Thug allegedly responded by threatening to shoot the officer in the face, prompting security staff to contact police.

According to the criminal arrest warrant, Young Thug made the threat against Chris May, who is the Director of Security at the aforementioned mall, after May directed Thug and his friends to leave the mall.

“Probable Cause:
D[efendant] threatened V[ictim] after being noticed to leave the mall. Security had escorted him out and he made threat while warning was being issued.”

Young Thug was taken into custody at his home in Sandy Springs, and Atlanta television station WSBTV was present during the raid, which included federal and local authorities. Police also intervened in a confrontation outside of the residence when Young Thug’s family and supporters became confrontational with reporters.

This recent arrest isn’t the first legal tangle for Young Thug and his inner circle. In early 2014, he was arrested after a traffic stop led to his arrest on a warrant for drug possession. In May, his tour manager Jimmy Carlton Winfrey was arrested and charged with a number of offenses over allegations that he shot up the tour bus of rival rapper Lil Wayne.

Young Thug’s star is on the rise as of late, as his first major label studio album is slated for release in August. As recently reported by Inquisitr, Young Thug has also seemingly garnered some respect from Lil Wayne, signaling some possible detente in their long-running feud. At present, it’s unclear if his present legal concerns will have any long-term consequences with respect to his promising career.

Young Thug is currently in custody at the DeKalb County Jail in Decatur, Georgia.
