Salma Hayek On Posing Nude: ‘I Was Very Nervous’
Salma Hayek fans worldwide will be flocking to the nearest newsstand to catch August issue of Allure magazine, which features Ms. Hayek posing “nearly” nude for famed photographer Patrick Demarchelier. For those unfamiliar with this photographer’s work, Demarchelier also photographed Jennifer Lawrence dressed only in a large reptile earlier this year.
“I got to work with the wonderful Patrick Demarchelier, and he always tries to do the minimum clothes possible,” Salma said of working with the photographer. “I kept my pants on though.”
Although 48-year-old Hayek was nervous at the start of the photo shoot, Salma conveyed confidence as she posed for the lens in what Ms. Hayek later described as photographs that “looked very nice” and “doesn’t look vulgar.”
“I was very nervous and I think I looked very uncomfortable at the beginning,” Salma said of the session. “I mean, you can’t see anything. Don’t get excited!”
The topic of posing nude, or nearly nude, ultimately led to a discussion of makeup and beauty tips. Ms. Hayek revealed that she has never done much more than the basic hair styling and makeup applications.
“When I was young, they tried to sell me on the idea [of Botox]: ‘If you do it now, then you won’t get the wrinkles,’ ” Hayek said. “And thank God I didn’t do that.”
“I think we change, and that’s part of the beauty of being a woman,” Ms. Hayek added on the issue of beauty. “We get to be our own canvas every day when you wake up.”
Salma revealed that she’s very family oriented and that she’s rarely away from her daughter or her husband of six years, Francois-Henri Pinault.
“I’ve never been apart from my daughter for more than two weeks,” Hayek said. “We don’t separate for long periods of time. Never.”
Speaking of her husband, Ms Hayek recalls a past filled with too many bad dating choices.
“I wish I knew [when I was younger] that I was going to fall crazy in love with the perfect man,” Hayek said. “I was so worried, and I dated some people I shouldn’t have dated. You get desperate and you start seeing wonderful things in, like, the wrong guys. I also found some pretty good guys. But I wish I could say to myself, ‘Hey, chill out. You’re going to get a great husband that’s going to adore you.’ I would have saved myself a lot of personal drama.”
