Judd Apatow On Bill Cosby: ‘You Don’t Need Seven Prescriptions Of Quaaludes’ [Video]

Judd Apatow is continuing to speak out about the Bill Cosby controversy. During an appearance Monday on the Today Show, the Trainwreck director says it is “time for everybody to wake up.”

Apatow, 47, has been one of Cosby’s harshest critics since late last year when multiple women started coming forward to accuse the 78-year-old comedian of drugging and rape. Making a guest appearance Monday on Today to promote his new movie, Trainwreck, Apatow took the opportunity to address the controversy once again and explain why he has taken a stand for the alleged victims.

“I just kept noticing that no one else was saying that this was a bad thing. I would have loved to not talk about it, but, you know, it’s incredibly sad. It’s one of the most tragic things that’s happened in our business and I do think we have to stand up for the women and say that we believe you. We don’t, you know, have to worry about him. A lot of people got terribly hurt. And you know, when you go out on a date you don’t need seven prescriptions of Quaaludes. I’m in show business. Famous people can meet women without the enormous prescriptions.”

When asked if he is surprised that more people have not come out against Bill Cosby, Judd Apatow says the number of women lodging allegations against the comedian should make people stop and think.

“We should all be very hesitant about getting involved in anything. But when it’s 40 people, it certainly is time for everybody to wake up and say we should be concerned about the women.”

Since the release of Bill Cosby’s 2005 deposition testimony, in which the comedian admits under oath that he obtained Quaaludes to give to women with whom he wanted to have sex, Judd Apatow has become more outspoken in his criticisms of the Cosby Show dad. In an interview with Esquire last week, Apatow called on Cosby’s wife and former cast mate, Phylicia Rashad, two of Cosby’s strongest supporters, to stand with the alleged victims.

“It [Cosby’s admission] is only new to people who didn’t believe an enormous amount of women who stated clearly that he drugged them. I am sure there are many victims who have not come forward. Maybe now more people in show business and all around our country will stand up and tell the people he attacked that we support you and believe you. I also hope Camille and Phylicia will now stand with the victims and not with their attacker.”

Judd Apatow’s latest criticisms of Bill Cosby come just one day after a source close to the 78-year-old comedian and his wife says Camille Cosby believes the accusers all had consensual relationships with her husband, as the Inquisitr previously reported.
