‘Green Lantern Corps’ Movie Announced At Comic-Con

Warner Bros. has announced their plans for the future of the Green Lantern franchise as part of the Hall H panel at Comic-Con 2015, revealing the title of a new film in the works.

Little has been known about the studio’s plans for the Green Lantern property, as SlashFilm notes, aside from the fact that a new film was set for an indeterminate future release. At Comic-Con today, Warner Bros. revealed that the title for that movie will be Green Lantern Corps, giving fans a sliver of information that provides insights as to where the franchise is headed.

There are a multitude of characters that take up the mantle of the Green Lantern in comics canon, and together they act as something of an intergalactic police force. Earlier rumors have suggested that the next film in the franchise would feature several of these characters, and the now-confirmed title of Green Lantern Corps seemingly gives those assertions credit. As IGN points out, it has also been rumored that Chris Pratt may portray Hal Jordan in the reboot film, though that has yet to be confirmed.

It remains unclear how the Green Lantern will fit into the evolving DC Cinematic Universe, set to center around the Justice League movies that are planned for 2017 and 2019, as the Inquisitr previously reported. One, if not multiple, iterations of the Green Lantern will be involved in those films, but the standalone movie is set to hit theaters a full year after the second Justice League picture.

Even though the 2011 Green Lantern film showed the intergalactic nature of the organization, it remains to be seen how large a role any of the other members will play in the upcoming reboot. Both Hal Jordan and John Stewart have proven to be popular among fans, and previous reports have suggested that the upcoming film could feature as many as three Green Lanterns as primary characters. It has been rumored that Jordan and Stewart, as well as Guy Gardner, could all be central characters in Green Lantern Corps, though that has yet to be confirmed.

While the idea of a Green Lantern film with more than one human member of the organization is no doubt exciting for fans, they have some time to wait before seeing it onscreen. Green Lantern Corps is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2020.
