Game Of Thrones Comic-Con: A Panel Of Mostly Ladies And Their Reactions To Season Five [Spoilers]

The Game of Thrones Comic-Con Panel began on Friday at 5:30 p.m. ET per Fansided. The panel was heavy on female cast members.

Lady panelists included Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), Hannah Murray (Gilly), Carolyn Strauss (executive producer), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Carice van Houten (Melisandre), and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark).

Next, the men present were Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy/Reek), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Conleth Hill (Varys), and David Nutter (director).

Noticeably missing from the Game of Thrones panel were Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and the woman behind the Mother of Dragons, Emilia Clark (Daenerys Targaryen.)

Lena Headey had a very good excuse for her absenteeism. She had given birth to her second child, a daughter, earlier on Friday, per Us Weekly Magazine.

Seth Meyers moderated. No streaming of the panel was allowed per Comic-Con. A live Game of Thrones panel blog was offered via Variety.

With a show of hands, Christie was the only present Game of Thrones cast member to have read George R.R. Martin’s five books in The Song of Ice And Fire Series.

“I didn’t read the books because you can only play the moment,” chimed in Conleth Hill, who also added Varys “made me a lot of money.”

A lot of focus was given to Sophie Turner’s eloquent answer to a Comic-Con fan question. Turner was asked to comment on her character’s horrifying marriage to the sadistic Ramsay Bolton, portrayed by Iwan Rheon, and the assumed nights and nights of rape her character endured locked away in a single room in her own familial home of Winterfell.

MTV posted Turner’s reply.

“I think Sansa, yeah, she has gone through a lot, but she has developed skills from Cersei and Margaery and others. She’s still just as strong as she was before… what she’s been doing this whole time, this whole series, is just getting by without doing anything totally radical, because that could change her situation… she could die. She’s not stupid. She thought [the rape] through in her head. She could have fought back if she wanted to, but she didn’t… she’s one of the characters who does her scheming in her head.”

Turner noted that Theon was wearing Robb’s clothes during the Sansa/Ramsay wedding. Sophie Turner alluded that this was done “just to make it a little bit more brutal.”

It was confirmed, yet again, that Jon Snow is dead. Speculation continues for the character’s return after the shocking season 5 finale, as previously reported by the Inquisitr.

Maisie Williams was worried that Arya might have to wear “blind contacts” that might impede her work in fight scenes.

She is apparently very good with cats, as Maisie told the Comic-Con panel audience that she had issue trying to chase the cat in season 1. She said she “caught it every single time.”

Williams chimed in after a comment from Turner that she’d like to work with Conleth more. As for Kit Harington, well…

The Red Wedding was a sore topic with Game of Thrones fans, who booed the mention by director David Nutter.

Natalie Dormer offered a light synopsis of Margaery’s current situation, per Mashable, as the show last leaves the Queen of Westeros in the same dungeon her mother-in-law was able to shamefully walk away from.

“She needs a shower and a coffee by now, I’m sure.”

Melisandre’s Carrise van Houten lamented that she had never received “so much hate mail.”

The Comic-Con Game of Thrones panel ended with an audition reel.
