Regis Philbin has been featured on the Today show several times, but today it was announced that he’s making his triumphant return. Philbin is set to reunite with his old co-host Kathie Lee Gifford as a contributor to the Today show.
During an impromptu celebration at the bar across the street from the Today show, Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotb stopped by for a celebratory drink to toast to Regis joining the “motley crew,” as Gifford said. Philbin was “tending bar,” as Kathie and Hoda prepped viewers at home for the exciting announcement. When Regis turned around with a huge bottle of wine to pour, the hysterics began.
After Regis poured Kathie Lee, Hoda, and himself drinks, with the assistance of bartender Daniel, the trio announced the news that Reg would be joining the Today show. It looks like the trio already got off to a hilarious start.
After the celebratory drink, the ladies led him to the Today studios across the street. As he passed with the ladies, the crowd cheered him on following the announcement. Kathie Lee slapped hands with the crowd and proclaimed, “Regis is here! Regis is here!” as the crowd hollered. Regis, not missing a beat said, “Regis is here to help save the show.”
Hoda then started a chant through the studio — “Regis! Regis! Regis!” Just as Philbin said, “I need more people than that.”
During the hour four segment, Regis spoke about Kathie Lee’s daughter, Cassidy, and her new role in the film, The Gallows. Philbin proclaimed excitedly, “I have known this little one since she was born!” After that, Regis joined in on a fun game of basketball, but it really just looked like he was playing monkey in the middle.
The huge change for Regis? Drinking in the morning! Philbin professed that he never drinks at 10 a.m. “Never! But I am today, I’ll tell you that.”
Some fans seem really excited about the newest addition.
You guys have no idea how excited I am Regis is with Kathie Lee and Hoda now.
