Miami Heat Rumors: Another Shooting Guard Signed By Heat For 2015-16 NBA Season

Miami Heat rumors have the team signing free agent Gerald Green. The Heat added Green as an insurance policy, and he will be a good shooting guard to come off the bench behind Dwyane Wade. Should Wade get banged up or be forced to miss a few games due to injury, Green could very easily get placed in the starting rotation. A report from CBS Sports states that this is a one-year deal, but it could likely lead to a contract extension if he works out well during the 2015-16 NBA season.

Gerald Green is an eight-year NBA veteran who has played for teams that include the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, and Indiana Pacers. For the last two years, he has been playing for the Phoenix Suns and putting up pretty good numbers. In 156 games for the Suns (52 starts), Green averaged 24.2 minutes, 14.0 points, and 3.0 rebounds per game. He shot 43.3 percent from the field, 38.0 percent from three-point range, and 84.0 percent from the free throw line.

While these Miami Heat rumors might be considered small compared to some of the other NBA offseason chatter, this could be a really good under-the-radar signing by the front office. Green has the ability to provide instant offense off the bench and helps spread the floor when he is on the court. Green can also slide from the shooting guard position to small forward and has good size on the defensive end of the court. On a team that is already pretty good, Green adds yet another weapon to the fold.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Miami was able to lock down Wade to a one-year deal worth $20 million. He still wants a max deal from the franchise and could be looking for another pay raise during the next NBA offseason. The team got him to at least agree to come back and not leave in free agency, which ended up occupying the team and its fans quite a bit. That was the big piece of business that the team needed to achieve this offseason and success on that front was a big deal.

While Gerald Green isn’t going to make a list of the top free agents signed during this past offseason, he could certainly provide a nice push for the second unit in South Beach. These Miami Heat rumors might just turn into one of the better signings if he can average double-digit scoring as the main player coming off the bench. That might even make him relevant in the fantasy basketball leagues again.
