‘What It’s Like To Be In A Coma’: Claire Wineland, Teen With Cystic Fibrosis, Explains How It Feels To Be In A Coma

This has to be one of the most interesting videos you would ever see. Meet 18-year-old Claire Wineland. Claire suffers from a condition known as Cystic Fibrosis. Apart from being a total champ for being so brave and positive in the face of life threatening illness, Claire is also one of the few people who has had the experience of going into a coma and coming out of it safely. So, what exactly do you feel when you are in a coma? Well, ask her.

Claire has made a video that is being shared all over the internet. The video titled ‘What It’s Like To Be In A Coma’ describes her experience of being in a medically-induced coma for two weeks. In the video, she explains how a person in a coma experiences the world around them. Claire says was able to hear and listen to the conversations happening around her and even thinks she is actively participating in them — only realising later that she was “sleeping” all the while.

She also describes an experience where she thinks she is in Alaska watching the beautiful scenery and sunset there — while in reality, the doctors were placing ice packs on her.

The video posted by Claire on June 26 has been viewed by over 50,000 people and is going viral as we file this story.

In the description on her website, Claire comes across as an extremely positive individual.

“I have spent around 1/3 of my life in the hospital, have had around 30 surgeries, do up to four hours of breathing treatments a day, and my life expectancy isn’t necessarily impressive (if ya know what i mean). Yet I have had a wonderful life; I have lived a life I’m proud of. I have lived a life I’m proud of.”

The Clairity Project is her brainchild. The aim of the project is to share her experiences through videos, photos, and writing. Claire aims to answer questions about her experiences and tell humorous stories.

“My goal is to break down the barriers that we tend to have with people who are living with an illness by discovering what you’re curious about and opening up my life to you.”

Our best wishes are with Claire!
