FIFA Scandal: Sepp Blatter Insists That He Did Not Resign

The FIFA scandal that rocked the top global soccer organization is far from settled. However, it seems Sepp Blatter has not stepped away from the presidency. Making his first appearance since stepping down from FIFA, Blatter insisted that he did not resign and instead announced that his future is in the hands of the FIFA congress.

It has been 23 days since the apparent resignation from FIFA. However, speaking at a party, Blatter spoke with an air of confidence, quoting the great Pablo Picasso and outlining that he did not officially state that he was stepping down from FIFA.

“Give me a museum and I’ll fill.”

Sepp Blatter stated, “Only those who know the past can understand the present and shape the future.”

“I’m not resigned but put my mandate at an extraordinary congress is available. For me personally, the museum is a labor of love. Do not get me wrong: I’m not ready for the museum nor for waxworks.”

It is clear that Sepp Blatter could be considering another campaign for reelection despite the horrendous FIFA scandal that has implicated many of his most loyal supporters within the FIFA congress. Sepp Blatter made it clear that the FIFA scandal had brought great shame and humiliation to the sport. However, despite the alleged corruption stemming from his regime, Blatter sought re-election.

“Actions of individuals bring shame and humiliation on football and demand action and change from us all. We can’t allow the reputation of football and Fifa to be dragged through the mud any longer. It has to stop here and now.”

Despite being re-elected as FIFA president four days earlier, Blatter announced that his position at FIFA was no longer tenable due to the mounting pressure to resign from the public.

“While I have a mandate from the membership of FIFA, I do not feel that I have a mandate from the entire world of football. Therefore, I have decided to lay down my mandate at an extraordinary elective congress. I will continue to exercise my functions as FIFA president until that election.”

The FIFA scandal is said the be the largest corruption case in the history of global sports. Officials such as Jack Warner and Jeffrey Webb have been accused of racketeering and tax fraud. Sepp Blatter is reportedly currently under investigation in the United States.
