Following the success of Fifty Shades of Grey, Universal Pictures was quick to announce the franchise would be expanded into a third and fourth film. With the release date for the second movie, Fifty Shades Darker, already set, fans have been eager to see just how far producers are willing to take the erotic drama.
According to Movie News Guide, there have been multiple reports that Fifty Shades Darker will feature even more erotic sex scenes between the movie’s two main characters, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). This is in contrast to the first film, which did not feature any full frontals for the main characters.
These rumors of the movie possibly showing a bit more when it comes to sex scenes, comes in light of major contract negotiations between the actors and the studio for the second film. Apparently, Universal offered a large raise for both Dornan and Johnson following the success of Fifty Shades of Grey.
Movie News Guide is reporting that the studio offered Dornan a considerable amount of money in order to show everything and go full frontal in the sequel. While the contract specifics between Dornan and Universal are not yet known, it is still to be determined if he accepted the offer to bare all in Fifty Shades Darker.
Meanwhile, before Fifty Shades Darker, and even Fifty Shades Freed, can get up and running, the franchise still has major issues to tackle. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson will not be directing any more movies in the franchise, leaving the studio with a major task in finding a new director for the remaining films.
At the same time, author E.L. James recently announced that she will be releasing another book in the erotic franchise later this month. James’ new book centers on the events that occurred in the first novel, but this time the story will focus on the perspective of Grey instead of Steele.
With the announcement of the new book, which is set to be released on June 18, many are wondering if Dornan and Johnson will reprise their roles if the new book is made into a movie. According to News Everyday, the two actors have agreed to play in the two remaining films, but their contracts do not cover any movies beyond those. This leaves open the possibility that two new actors will be selected for the parts if the new book is ever adapted into a film.
Fifty Shades Darker is set to hit theaters in February, 2017.
