Only five Giants hitters have ever faced Harvey, who enters the game at 6-3 with a solid 3.05 ERA and an impressive 80 strikeouts against just 12 walks in 73 2/3 innings pitched in 2015 — his first year back after missing all of 2014 to recover from Tommy John surgery.

Of the Giants hitters with limited experience against Harvey, only catcher Buster Posey has shown much success, with four hits and a walk in only six plate appearances against the Mets starter. Posey has one hime run off pf Harvey in those four hits.

Mets batters are more familiar with Hudson, who is pitching in his 17th Major League season. In other words, Matt Harvey was 10-years-old when Hudson made his big league debut in 1999, for the Oakland A’s.

The Mets’ Lucas Duda has the most experience against Hudson, facing him 36 times with 12 hits, including a home run and three walks against the San Francisco righthander, who brings a 3-5 record and 4.41 ERA into the game against New York.

Harvey is getting back on track after struggling in May when he started five games, going 0-3 with two no-decisions. But in his first June outing, Harvey fanned nine in seven string innings as the Mets went on beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2.
