‘Gilmore Girls’ Reboot A Possibility, Says Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino: ‘We Would All Jump In And Do It’
Oy with the poodles already! It has been eight years since the last time those fast-talking, quick-witted Gilmore Girls made us laugh from their little home of Stars Hollow. For fans, the residents of that tiny Connecticut town are ones that will never be forgotten, and can still be quoted by heart. For seven seasons, we watched while Luke pined for Lorelai, and were ecstatic when the diner owner finally got his shot. We laughed, and cried, along with Rory as she dated, and broke up with, the three major loves in her life.
And we were left with more questions than answers when the popular series was abruptly cancelled, and the final episode aired on May 15, 2007. Did Luke and Lorelai end up together? Did Rory and Logan get back together? Or maybe she went back to Jess, or Dean. Well, members of the Gilmore Girls cult were given a tiny flicker of hope when the show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, told the audience at the ATX Television Festival that a Gilmore Girls reboot wasn’t out of the realm of possibility.
While initially, she told fans that “there’s nothing in the works at the moment,” she went on to add that if the stars aligned, a Gilmore Girls reboot would be something she would love to do.
“If it ever happened, I promise we’d do it correctly … Nobody here hates each other, which is very important. It would have to be the right everything, the right format, the right timing, it would have to be honored in a certain way. And if it ever came around, we would all jump in and do it.”
On whether the Gilmore Girls reboot would come in the form of a movie, or perhaps a Netflix series, Sherman-Palladino had no comment at the moment, “because it’s not real right now.” Kelly Bishop — who played Emily Gilmore, the Gilmore matriarch — was very gung-ho about the idea of a Gilmore Girls movie. “Collectively, we’re going to make this happen,” she said. Scott Patterson — who played diner owner Luke Danes — agreed.
“I think it’s kind of time, don’cha think? Plus, Lauren said she didn’t want to know Amy’s famous last four words [the mysterious four words that Sherman-Palladino had always said she would have ended the series with] unless she’s ‘saying or listening to someone in the show saying them.’ “
While there’s no official Gilmore Girls reboot in the works at the moment, it’s still a distinct possibility, and it’s one that fans around the world are crossing their fingers and hoping for. Get this Gilmore Girls reboot show on the road, guys! Copper Boom!
