John Cena Will Not Pin Kevin Owens Clean At ‘Money In the Bank’: Here’s Why
John Cena shocked fans and foes alike when he took the clean pin at Elimination Chamber from Kevin Owens in what was the easy “Match of the Night” favorite.
Over the years, he’s developed something of a reputation as a gravedigger, always vying to bury fresh young talent. This couldn’t be further from the truth as he’s demonstrated a fairly generous in-ring character willing to “do the honors” when necessary.
No one expected that the EC match would end the way it did. No one expected him to do a squash match against Brock Lesnar.
Over the years, he’s laid down for CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, and a slew of other superstars. While it’s true that he did derail Bray Wyatt and Rusev, he managed to do so in a way that still made the other guys look strong.
In other words, it didn’t ruin their characters — at least he didn’t.
Many of the complaints leveled at John Cena are, in fact, outcries against Vince McMahon and the iron grip he keeps on WWE Creative.
Cena isn’t a backstage prima donna intent on being pushed over everyone. The only reason he continually does get a push is that the guy calls great matches night after night.
Just take the Rusev feud as a good example. Rusev actually became interesting on Cena’s watch, and even when he “quit,” he never said the words.
It’s almost as if Cena’s haters will accept nothing less than the man turning into a full jobber. They resent every win without rhyme or reason in spite of the fact that the man is the best in the business.
Now that Kevin Owens has logged his first victory against John Cena, the haters are back out, convinced Cena will bury Owens in the next three pay-per-views.
That isn’t going to happen.
Vince, Triple H, WWE Creative as a whole — they’re all high on Owens, and they understand what a clean victory for Cena could do to the momentum they’ve worked to build.
While Cena may get the win, I believe that it’ll be due to either Samoa Joe interference (setting up a pin) or disqualification (like if Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens swerved everyone and double-teamed Cena as a way to make a “statement”).
John Cena has gone out of his way to make Zack Ryder, Sami Zayn, Rusev, and now Kevin Owens look phenomenal. I think it’s time to give the man some credit. But what do you think, readers?
