Aziz Ansari Works With NYC Parks & Recreation To Mow Central Park

Parks and Recreation star Anziz Ansari recently got to perform some real Parks and Recreation work. The comedy star joined up with the Central Park Conservancy on Monday for its inaugural cut of Sheep Meadow, and Ansari had the honor of mowing the central park lawn himself.

“When I initially agreed to do this, I thought it would be later in the day and I would be getting a key to the city. Instead its really early, and I’m getting a key to the city’s lawnmower, which I guess is kind of nice,” Ansari said at the start of the ceremony.

Ansari didn’t mow all of the lawn by himself, of course–Sheep’s Meadow is about 15 acres, and having to mow that on his own would be a pretty tall order. The comedy star was joined by other members of the city’s parks department, but he did mow about an acre’s worth of grass, Central Park Conservancy spokeswoman Dena Libner said.

Ansari wasn’t just using your standard lawnmower, though–the former New Yorker was driving around a pretty complicated piece of machinery, NYC Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe said in an interview with the NY Daily News.
