Urijah Faber Complains About UFC Fight Night 65 Result — Blames ‘Dead Time’ For Losing Manila Main Event

Back on Saturday, May 16, 2015, in Manila, Philippines, Frankie Edgar took on Urijah Faber in the main event at UFC Fight Night 65. After the dust of five rounds has settled, it was unanimously decided that Edgar won the fight. The stats provided by the official UFC website back such a decision in which Edgar connected with 91 of 266 strikes, 83 of 258 significant strikes, and had 5 successful takedowns out of 13. Even the media poll scored the bout 50-45 for Edgar, as provided by MMA Decisions.

Nevertheless, Urijah Faber is complaining about the result, believing he was not blown out at UFC Fight Night 65. From what is reported, Faber is blaming “dead time” for Frankie Edgar winning every round.

According to MMA Fighting, Urijah Faber made an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s Monday edition of The MMA Hour. During his allocated time slot, Faber complained that Edgar was given the advantage on the cards due to “dead time” when he was attempting to grapple, but not necessarily doing it successfully. This includes times when they were up against the cage in a clinch.

“For me, that was dead time in there. And that’s kind of the difference. Could I have done some takedown attempts and try to wrestle a little bit? Yeah. But I don’t feel like it was the best move to finish the fight. So that’s why I wasn’t going for as much wrestling.”

Now to be fair, Urijah Faber isn’t complaining that he deserved to win the fight. Instead, Faber is complaining he deserved to win some of the rounds.

“Every round, they gotta give it to someone,” Faber said. “It depends what they’re looking at. I felt like I could have gotten a couple of those rounds, for sure.”

To those who heard Urijah Faber complain, it sounded more like an attempt to grasp at straws. Presently, Faber has no opportunity to redeem himself since he is not scheduled to fight anyone. However, Faber is known for changing weight classes for fights he deems interesting, especially for featherweight and bantamweight divisions, as reported by MMA Frenzy. Given this fact, Urijah Faber will have a scheduled fight most likely sooner than later.

“I know I’m right there with the top level at both weight classes, so it just gives me options. There are a few guys in the world who are able to compete in multiple weight classes at the highest level. Some guys will never be able to hold a match to the top three their entire career.”

Frankie Edgar, however, is expected to fight the winner of the Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor fight, which is the main event at UFC 189. The special happens on July 11, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
