It’s Almost Official: Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Will Challenge New iPhone In September

Those of you who thought Samsung was ignoring its Galaxy Note line in favor of the much-ridiculed Galaxy S6 Plus are in for some good news: A Samsung executive has indirectly confirmed the upcoming Galaxy Note 5 phablet will be released in September. BGR read between the lines of a Bloomberg report to reveal the information.

“According to Bloomberg, Rhee told investors on a conference call that the company had to push back the launch of Samsung Pay to September… Rhee added that the service will debut in the U.S. at the same time with the next high-end mobile device.”

While Rhee didn’t specifically name the Galaxy Note 5 in the process, it is more than likely he was talking about the Galaxy Note 5 since Samsung usually launches its Note devices in September and October. There are also no reports on any other Samsung “high-end” devices, besides the much-derided Galaxy S6 Plus

One of the features the Galaxy Note 5 could have is a 4K display. Tech Times reveals that Samsung is working on bringing Ultra HD technology to smartphones.

“Samsung confirmed that it is working on bringing Ultra HD 3840 by 2160 pixel technology to their upcoming mobile devices in 2015. The information was gathered based on the company’s Analyst Days presentation slides.”

Tech Times also revealed that the Galaxy Note 5 may come in two versions: the 5.78-inch dual-edge model and the flat display model with a 5.89-inch screen. Other rumors have the Note 5 looking similar to the new Galaxy S6 series as well as having a whopping 4GB of RAM. The Galaxy Note 5 will also host the first commercial version of Samsung’s Gear VR virtual reality headset.

Samsung will have a lot of competition from Apple’s next iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. TweakTown talked about the alleged new processor and camera of the next iPhone.

“Inside, we should find Apple’s new A9 processor, which will be made by their main competitor: Samsung. Samsung will use their new 14nm FinFET technology to make Apple’s custom processor, so we should expect a seriously fast dual- or quad-core processor from Apple in the iPhone 7.”

The increasingly popular tech site also talked about the camera, which they believe will be a dual-lens snapper that will provide “DSLR-like” images. Other sources say Apple will increase the camera to 16 megapixels and users will finally be able to take 4K videos — something Samsung phones have been able to do for the past two years.

Samsung will be under a lot of pressure to make the Galaxy Note 5 a unique and groundbreaking device. While the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge didn’t turn things around as much as people expected for Samsung, the Galaxy Note 5 certainly could put the Korean company back in the top position that it occupied in 2012 and 2013.
