Bikers Rally Around Disabled Little Girl Who Was Bullied: ‘We’ve Got Your Back’

Bikers may look tough, but many of them have hearts of gold.

One particular motorcycle club, called the Punishers, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, proved they weren’t afraid to show their softer side after hearing about a 5-year-old little girl with a mental disability being bullied.

According to the girl’s family, who asked that the child not be named, the little girl was assaulted by a group of neighborhood children on her way home from school. When the Punishers, a club made up of military veterans and law enforcement officials that focuses nationwide on helping people within their community, heard of the incident, they knew they wanted to help.

“We rounded up all the bikes and we rode over to the little girl’s house and said ‘hi,’ ” Aaron Holmes, a member of the Punishers, said.

“When she walked out she was kind of wide eyed,” said Norman Gonzalez, who is the president of the Punishers’ Albuquerque club.

The bikers said that once the little girl warmed up to them, they formed a special bond. The biker club wanted the little girl to feel empowered, so they emphasized the need to stand up for one’s self. And, in addition to that, Gonzalez said, “We told her that we are always there for her no matter what.”

It must be a pretty good feeling for a little girl to know that an entire motorcycle club full of former military and law enforcement members has her back. But, even though these men, who ride bikes and dress in black, look like tough guys, they are a force of good in their community — and a sensitive group, as well.

“We are all pretty soft-hearted. I’m actually a nurse,” Gonzalez said.

The Punishers is a club that focuses on charities, community protection and service, and whose members possess the “highest moral and ethical values.”

And it seems like there is one little girl in New Mexico who would certainly agree.

As distressing as bullying can be, it is sometimes a catalyst for a community to come together and rally behind each other. Last year, a young cheerleader with Down syndrome was bullied by people in the stands of the basketball court where she was cheering.
