Charlie Puth: New Single, New Album, And New Tour On The Way
Charlie Puth is a 23-year-old native of New Jersey with a knack for songwriting, a voice for pop, and a star that is quickly on the rise.
He is no chance talent. Puth studied jazz piano at the Berklee College of Music and has already written and co-written songs for the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Trey Songz, Jason Derulo, and Lil Wayne.
Charlie Puth got his start doing covers on YouTube and was recognized by Ellen Degeneres for a cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You” and was invited to appear on The Ellen Degeneres Show to perform. From that appearance, he signed with Degeneres’ eleveneleven record label, but has since signed with Atlantic Records.
Puth appeared with Wiz Khalifa on Saturday Night Live earlier this month to perform their hit “See You Again,” written by Charlie Puth and featured on the Furious 7 soundtrack.
“We brought the power ballad back,” said Puth in an interview with Billboard. “It’s a big, uplifting song anyone can connect to.”
Though used as a vehicle to reflect on the memory of Paul Walker in Furious 7, Charlie Puth claims the song “See You Again” originated from a more personal place.
“I was carrying my friend in his casket to put him in the hearse, and I was thinking, ‘I need to write a song for this guy, because he always told me I would have a No. 1 song,'” Puth said in an interview with USA Today.
“See You Again” has been a huge success for Puth, unseating “Uptown Funk” for the No. 1 seat on Billboards Hot 100, but Charlie Puth is proving himself to be more than a one-hit-wonder.
Puth released “Marvin Gaye,” featuring Meghan Trainor in February, which sparked continuing collaboration between the two artists.
They also appeared together in Trainor’s “Dear Future Husband” video, where Charlie Puth made a cameo appearance.
Charlie Puth released his four-song EP Some Type of Love earlier this month, featuring the songs “Marvin Gaye” and “I Wont Tell a Soul.”
Though Some Type of Love is Puth’s first compilation effort, he plans to release his first full album later on this year. In the interim, he continues writing and collaborating with other artists.
Charlie Puth will open for Meghan Trainor on her upcoming American MTrain Tour, which is scheduled to begin July 3 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
