Stevie Nicks Drops By “American Idol” to Coach Remaining Finalists [Video]

Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks stopped by American Idol on Wednesday night’s show to coach the nine hopeful remaining contestants and in the process revealed her crush for Idol hopeful Phillip Phillips.

Hollywood Reporter writes that the legendary singer-songwriter openly ogled the Dave Matthews soundalike during her gig as the celebrity guest mentor on Wednesday’s American Idol, wherein the nine remaining finalists performed songs by their respective idols.

The gravel-voiced Georgian impressed not only the judges with his cover of Jonny Lang’s “Still Rainin,'” he had Nicks in the palm of his hand. Indeed, she visibly quaked in the 21-year-old’s presence, comparing him to old Fleetwood Mac flame Lindsay Buckingham and cooing: “Last but not least, he’s gorgeous.”

Nicks also gave Phillips perhaps the highest compliment by any Idol mentor in history by informing him that if this were the ’70s, he’d be asked to join the classic rock band famous for such hits as “Landslide” and “Go Your Own Way.”

“Had it been you, me and [fellow Fleetwood Mac singer Lindsey Buckingham] in 1975, Mick Fleetwood would have asked all three of us to be part of Fleetwood Mac. You’re that good,” Nicks told Phillips, who earned a standing ovation from Idol judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson.

Phillips’ epic performance was just one of many on the night as as the trio of judges gave four other standing ovations to contestants Heejun Han, Elise Testone, Joshua Ledet and DeAndre Brackensick.

“[Tonight] was a magical mystery tour of over-the-top talent and emotion,” Aerosmith’s Tyler noted.

Idol still has two months to go until the Season 11 finale takes place live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on May 23rd, but from the looks of it, this year could be one of the closest competitions in the show’s history.

American Idol’s next elimination round begins Thursday at 8pm on Fox.

Readers chime in: Are you in agreement with Stevie Nicks that Phillip Phillips is the Idol to beat? Which Wednesday night Idol performance was your favorite?
