Golden State Warriors Put Away The Houston Rockets In Game 5 Win To Advance To NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors are on their way to their first trip to the NBA Finals since 1975 after their victory over the Houston Rockets, 104-90, in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, ESPN reported.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said about advancing to the NBA Finals, “I always think of Pat Riley’s great quote when you’ve coaching in the NBA, ‘There’s winning and there’s misery.’ And he’s right… It’s more than relief. It’s joy. Our players are feeling it. I know our fans are.”

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry seemed to be fully healed after his nasty spill in Game 4, as reported by the Inquisitr. He had to leave the game, suffering from a head contusion. Curry finished Game 5 with 25 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

Curry said about his team advancing to the Finals, “We want to win and bring a championship to the Bay Area. They deserve it. Everybody has sacrificed part of themselves to make this team better. We’re just blessed to give all the fans something special, we’re going to keep pushing… Why not us this year?”

Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson suffered the injury after Trevor Ariza hit him in the head, as reported by Fox Sports. Thompson was taken out of the game more than once to determine if he had suffered a concussion and to control bleeding in his ear.

Thompson said about winning Game 5 and the injury he sustained, “I’m a little dizzy, but we’ve got a week off, I’ll be alright… I’m so proud our guys finished, we deserve to celebrate tonight, get our rest and can’t wait for next week. It’s been a long time coming for the Bay Area.”

Houston Rockets guard James Harden had a harder time, getting the record for the most turnovers made in a playoff game with 13 turnovers.

Harden said about his performance in Game 5, “Tried to do a little bit too much and turned the ball over and gave them easy baskets in transition… This isn’t where we wanted to end at. It’s a really good season for us. Next year we want to be better, and we will.”

Harden continued, saying about the Rockets’ Game 5 loss and elimination from the Western Conference, “We had opportunities in the first two games. In the playoffs it doesn’t matter how you win, you just got to get it done.”

The Golden State Warriors will meet the Eastern Conference Finals champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers, in the NBA Finals on June 4. It will mark the fifth consecutive trip to the NBA Finals for Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James and the first Finals’ appearance for tNBA MVP Stephen Curry and the Warriors.
