Watch the thrilling, action-packed sport of Australian Rules Football live online as the Sydney Swans take on the Carlton Blues in what promises to be an intense game in Round 9 of the Australian Football League Premiership.

To watch the rough-and-tumble Sydney Swans vs. Carlton Blues Australian Rules Football match streaming live online from Sydney Cricket Ground in New South Wales, Australia, see the information at the bottom of this article.

The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. local time in Sydney on Friday, May 29. That’s 5:30 a.m. United States Eastern Time, 2:30 a.m. Pacific.

After eight matches played in the 2015 season, Sydney Swans currently sit in third place on the AFL Premiership ladder, at 6-2, good for 24 points. The Swans have also won their last three games after back-to-back defeats.

Carlton, on the other hand, sits at the bottom of the 18-team league with only one victory and four losses in a row.

But the Blues took drastic action to right their ship this week, sending Coach Mick Malthouse packing after 718 games at the helm of the venerable AFL club. His Week Eight firing was the earliest in the season any AFL coach has been handed his pink slip since 1994.

Swans players expect the faltering Blues to roll into Sydney with something to prove for their departed coach, and his interim successor, former assistant John Barker, and they are preparing for a hard-fought contest.

“We know that Carlton are going to come out firing after the week they’ve had, so we’re looking forward to that,” said Sydney’s Ben McGlynn. “I guess that there’s probably a bit of weight off their shoulders with what’s happened around the week. They might come out and have a different game plan, we’re not too sure.”

For American fans who may not be familiar with “Footy,” as the sport is sometimes called, Australian Rules Football is Australia’s most popular professional sport, and the Australian Football League Grand Final — the “Super Bowl” of the sport — is regularly the best-attended championship game of any pro sports league in the world, frequently drawing more than 100,000 spectators and in one year, upwards of 120,000.

Unlike in American football, throwing the ball is illegal. The ball must be advanced by either kicking or “handling,” which involves striking the ball, similar to a volleyball pass. Points are scored by kicking the ball through goalposts.

What fans of American football will likely find appealing is the high level of contact and violence in Australian Rules Football. But while Aussie Rules is a full contact sport, players wear no significant padding.
