Michelle On Josh Duggar Joke: ‘We Had Tried To Teach Him Right From Wrong’ [Video]

Despite backlash in light of the Josh Duggar incest joke he made in 2008, 19 Kids and Counting mother Michelle insists she tried to teach her son right from wrong. When the embarrassing story broke about the molestation secret the Duggars kept hidden, supporters of Jana Duggar suggested she leave the house to form her own life, according to Ecumenical News.

When the Duggar’s fans learned about the molestation and the 2008 Josh Duggar joke was revealed, Michelle addressed the public by issuing a formal press release stating that “back 12 years ago our family went through one of the most difficult times of our lives. When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes, and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before.”

When the news surfaced that Josh Duggar molested two girls when he was a teenager, he told his fans that “twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents, who took several steps to help me address the situation.”

In the video of Josh Duggar’s joke, he quips that “we are from Arkansas, no?” when referring to a time when his older siblings Jana and John David accompanied him on a date with his then-fiance Anna. The Duggars have a rule about no solo dating until marriage, according to the New York Daily News. “We chose Jana and John David,” Josh claimed in the video about his siblings. He takes the joke further by claiming, “we thought why not have a double date.”

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Anna Duggar posted cryptic messages before the scandal broke, leading some to question whether she knew there would be a lot of backlash surrounding Josh’s joke.

Jana Duggar has yet to issue any sort of statement about the abuse allegations, which include touching and fondling and has stayed silent at home. She has stayed silent about the incest joke, as well. Some viewers believe Jana is something of a maid who has to take care of her younger sisters and brothers.

Once the news of the molestation charges were revealed, Josh quit his job with the Family Research Council, an organization dedicated to preserving family values in America, where he was a lobbyist. TLC also pulled the show from their lineup in light of the bad press surrounding 19 Kids and Counting as well as the video of the 2008 Josh Duggar joke.
